Trash Couture

“These photos would eventually dictate my personal style in photography; Monochrome.”

2010, Niccolo Cosme’s workshop.

It was around a small class of around 5 students. To test our skills and what we’ve learned, we had to come up with a shoot that advocated environmental awareness. It was my first and most memorable project.

The Materials I used for the fashion pieces were recycled unused garbage bags. The pressure pushed me to new heights. And I quote Niccolo saying this while I was apparently stressing out.

“Stress is good.”

Indeed the stress was good. Finished the pieces in 3 days. The workshop ended with a big exhibit at the then Lighthouse Studio at Orosa Street, Malate.

I remember that night I logged in my email account, clicking send to join the workshop. That small decision changed my whole life. I remember Perou’s visit in Manila talking about how photography changed his life; from the shy boy to one of Britain’s top photographers. I guess I could relate to that.
